Built before 1978? Paid work that disturbs paint in older homes must follow EPA lead-safe (RRP) rules. For those homes we use EPA RRP certified painters. EPA's RRP page.
Painting older Detroit-area homes
A large share of homes in Detroit, Dearborn, Ferndale and the Grosse Pointes were built before 1978, when lead paint was still sold. Paid work that disturbs paint in those homes has to follow the EPA's lead-safe (RRP) rules, so we use RRP certified painters for them.
Michigan's exterior painting season generally runs from late spring to early fall, when day and night temperatures stay above the paint maker's minimum. Interior rooms and rental turnovers are painted year-round.

Questions
How much does it cost to paint a room?
It depends on size, ceiling height, prep and paint. We give free written quotes.
My home was built before 1978. Does that matter?
Yes. Paid painting that disturbs paint in pre-1978 homes must follow EPA lead-safe rules, so we use EPA RRP certified painters for those jobs.
When can you paint exteriors?
Generally late spring to early fall, when temperatures stay above the paint maker's minimum. Interior work runs year-round.
Do you paint rentals between tenants?
Yes, and turnovers can be bundled with cleaning.
Is it too late in the year to paint a house exterior in Michigan?
Short answer: Not always, but the window is short. Check the minimum temperature on the paint can: many exterior paints want about 50°F and up, and some newer formulas are rated as low as 35°F. The air and the siding need to stay above that minimum while it dries, including overnight, and you need dry surfaces with no dew or rain in the forecast. In Metro Detroit that often means late-morning starts and early stops in fall. If the forecast will not cooperate, prep and repair now and paint in spring, or move projects inside.

Is it too late? (0:00)
Want your house painted before winter in Metro Detroit? Here’s whether it’s too late. Short answer: maybe not. It comes down to temperature, and the paint can tells you the limit.
Temperature rules (0:11)
Many exterior paints want about fifty degrees or warmer. Some newer formulas are rated down to thirty-five. And it has to stay above that while it dries, including overnight. A warm afternoon and a frosty night can ruin it. Link below for a free quote. The siding has to be dry too. In fall, that means waiting for the morning dew to burn off, and stopping early.
When to paint vs wait (0:35)
Check the ten-day forecast. A few dry days in the fifties? You can still get it done. If not, do the scraping and repairs now, paint in spring, and move inside work like rooms and trim up the list. For a free quote, go to metrodetroitpainters.com, or call (313) 356-7220.

How long to wait after painting a room
Short answer: Most latex wall paint is dry to the touch in about an hour, but drying is not curing. EPA and CPSC painting guidance says to keep windows open for about 2 to 3 days after painting and to avoid a freshly painted room for 2 to 3 days when possible. Benjamin Moore puts the typical cure time for latex paint at 2 to 3 weeks, so go easy on the walls: no scrubbing, and keep furniture from rubbing them.
